Five Ways We Can Sabotage
Our Love Lives

When it comes to romance, most relationship counselors agree that we generally create our own luck.

While it’s true that some people are born with advantages, we all can still choose to build upon what we have, however small. Or we can sabotage our efforts to find our perfect match through the power of delusion.

If you consider yourself “unlucky in love,” here are five ways you may be shooting yourself in the foot:

1. You choose the wrong people.

That’s not misfortune; it’s predetermined failure based on fantasy.

If you keep falling for people you know are legally or emotionally unavailable, you’re setting yourself up for disillusionment and heartbreak.

2. You’re too needy.

Do you try to ingratiate yourself with a potential partner in unnecessary ways, overloading them with compliments and flattery?

Do you stare at them as if they’re the key to a better tomorrow? If so, you’re likely making them uncomfortable.

You can still treat them with courtesy and respect without demeaning your own self-worth.

Desperation is a turn-off.

3. Your romantic goals are too complicated.

No one will ever be good enough if your vision of the perfect partner is too extensive and detailed.

Simplify your goals by instead seeking happiness and the companionship of people who contribute to that happiness.

4. You talk yourself out of it.

Maybe you keep telling yourself you’ll never find the right romantic partner. Bear in mind your subconscious can’t take a joke. Whatever thoughts you program into it begin to manifest in your life.

Cut out the negative self-talk, and you’ll start to attract more positive results.

5. You turn a date into an audition.

The problem with an audition is that even if you get the part, you’ll have to keep performing.

Whenever you treat your date like a casting director instead of an equal, you cede your power to that individual, whether they want it or not.

The opportunity for genuine connection is lost.

Keep It Real

Alas, even after you’ve found your soulmate and established a solid relationship, don’t be surprised if little annoyances crop up:
